At first, I honestly wondered if I had picked up the wrong book. The present-day storyline introduces Margot Cooper, the seemingly perfect wife of a famous actor who has built a public image around traditional family values. It initially feels like the sort of suburban housewife thriller we’ve seen many times before: wealthy people, social media personas, carefully curated lives, and secrets waiting to explode. Then everything changes.
