I’ve been busy with work lately and haven’t had much time for blogging. I’ll be back next week once I’ve settled into this new semester a bit. Until then, I am piggy-backing off The Bloggess today and showcasing pictures of my office, which is way more messy than hers is!
Here’s where the magic happens. Yes, that is the obligatory cat sitting in my office chair. There’s another cat around here someplace, but who knows where. She’ll jump out and attack my feet after I sit down.

I’m thinking about compiling some of my blog posts on novel writing and putting them together in an eBook. I don’t think I quite have enough blog posts yet, but it’s something I think I could manage over the next year or two.
I’ve been blogging about the first draft novel I just knocked out in 16 days, and I think this could be a strong string to tie my eBook together. I’ll keep blogging as I work my way through the process of revising and self-publishing this novel. Then in a year or two, I’ll put all of the blog posts together into one document and revise those into a cohesive whole. So, it will be a book on how to efficiently write, self-publish, and market a novel. Continue reading “Would you buy that book?”→
Day 10 Prompt: List 5 top blog posts from fellow participants in this challenge. Link to them, and say why you enjoyed them.
Okay, so let’s be 100% honest here. I have not had a chance to read many of the other participants’ posts due to the fact that I have been on a writing roll this past week. You know how it is when you’ve got that momentum, and you just can’t let it go?
Day 9 Prompt: Post either a setting or character profile from your latest fiction project, a chapter summary of your non-fiction book, or a discussion of the theme or object inspiring a poem, article, or other writing project.
I did a combination:
Valley was born along the banks of the Little Wabash River in Effingham County, Illinois. The story takes place in a distance future where much of the world is full of ghost towns left empty by famines that were the result of bees dying off. Valley’s ancestors not only survived the famines, but also thrived for several generations by growing their crops in the river bottoms where it was easier for them to maintain their own bees. Day 6 Prompt: For today’s prompt, I decided to use the alternative prompt, as I have already profiled my most-read blogs. Here’s the alternative prompt: Share a personal interest or hobby that you have aside from writing – how has this inspired and impacted your writing? Required: at least one photo!
Day 5 Prompt: Show off 3 of your best blog posts (with links!)
My dream career: A 5-paragraph essay: I don’t know if this is really one of my best blog posts, but it does get me the most hits. I published this in March of 2012, and to this day, I still get at least 100 hits on this particular post every week. Most of my posts are lucky if they get 10 hits the week they’re published. Interestingly enough, the search terms that are most often used to find my blog are “essay on my dream career” Continue reading “10 Day Writing Blogger Challenge: Day 5”→
Day 3 Prompt: Introduce yourself with your writing bio.
This is the (very) short bio I send with a lot of my short story submissions:
Amanda L. Webster has an MA in English, with a concentration in creative writing, from Mount Mary College. She won the 2013 Sigma Tau Delta Individual Blog Award for her blog located at writeontheworld.wordpress.com.
I wonder sometimes if it is a little too brief. What do you think? How can I improve my writing bio? Do you think I should include more personal info, or will that distract from my professional accomplishments? Continue reading “10 Day Writing Blogger Challenge: Day 3”→
Today’s writing blogger challenge prompt might be a hard one. I am sitting here racking my brain and not coming up with more than one or two. So, here’s what I’m going to do: Let it simmer. I am going to simply leave my Word doc open and run back to write these down as I think of them.
Hopefully I’ll have come up with ten by the time I need to post this. Otherwise, I may end up posting a partial list –OR- using the alternative prompt, which is to take a blogging break for the day. Nah, I’m not taking a day off!
Okay, so yesterday I put out a little teaser about a new blog thing I want to do. It’s called Wannabe Writer Wednesdays, and the goal is to highlight writers who are in the same boat I am in. In other words, I want to interview writers who either haven’t yet published anything or have published next to nothing. I want to highlight the wannabes like me rather than the already famous.
Why would I do such a thing? Well, several of the blogs I follow interview writers who are already publishing. These are usually writers who are marketing a newly released book. While I enjoy reading these interviews, and have even learned a thing or two from them, I think it would be equally interesting to read about writers who are still in the wannabe stage. Misery loves company, right? Continue reading “Coming soon: Wannabe Writer Wednesdays”→
